The Sen Ahmed Makarfi-led committee of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) is considering merging with other parties in a bid to
stage a comeback in 2019.
Vanguard reports that the committee inaugurated a
115-member strategy review and inter-party affairs committee and charged them
with the responsibility of seeing to the merger of the PDP with other parties.
Senator Makarfi who spoke of the inauguration of the
committee said it was a strategy to win back democratic power in 2019. Prof.
Jerry Gana, the former minister of information is the leader of the committee.
Makarfi said the committee should “explore
strategies to engage all possible allies with a view to building positive
relationship in overall interest and in furtherance of democracy in Nigeria.
“To consider recommend strategies to reposition to party and Recommend
necessary amendment to the constitution of the party.”
“You don’t remain docile and inactive, you don’t
remain cornered so that you will not be toyed about with at the whims and
caprices of anybody. “Time is going, a lot of things are happening and our men
and women are on their own and are beginning to do all sorts of meetings.”
