Lt. General Tukur Buratai, the chief of army
staff has said that 150 students of the Command Science School, Lafia in
Nasarawa will get automatic admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA)
when they graduate. Leadership reports that the chief of army staff was
represented in Lafia by Major General Bello Abubakar during the official
commissioning of the school.
The institution which is the first in the whole
northern Nigeria is expected to enhance military/civilian relationship as it
started in July 2014 as a collaborative effort between the Army and the
Nasarawa State government. The Command Science School has admitted 150 students
into the junior class out of which 130 students are indigenes of the state.
The army chief called on the students to reflect the
discipline and uprightness that the military represents, adding that states
like Kebbi, Jigawa among others are already clamouring for the establishment of
such in their states.
The governor of the state, Alhaji Umaru Tanko
Al-Makura said the school will widen the scope of education of the students. He
also noted that it would propel interested students into the army.
