Jordon Ibe was robbed at knifepoint when thieves
rammed his car just four days after suspected gunmen threatened West Ham
striker Andy Carroll. The 20-year-old former Liverpool player had his watch
stolen after his car was struck in Surrey Quays, south-east London, it has
emerged.
The attack came after England international Carroll,
27 as revealed by Sportsmail was the victim of an attempted robbery as he
drove home from a training session on November 2. Scotland Yard said detectives
were investigating the attack on Ibe, which took place near Surrey Quays
Underground station at around 1.45pm on November 6.
The Sun reported that the assailants made off with the
footballer's £25,000 Rolex. A Met Police spokesman said: 'One of the suspects
threatened the victim with a knife before stealing his watch. The victim was not
injured. 'At this early stage, officers are investigating whether the suspects
intentionally collided with the victim's car.'
It is unknown what car the former Reds player was
driving at the time of the incident which occurred this month although Ibe appears to be a car fanatic and
has been pictured attending Mercedes car shows. And photographs on his
Instagram account appear to show him driving a Mercedes G-Wagon ‒ a similar
model to what Carroll was driving when he was targeted on his way back from a
West Ham training session.
West Ham's Carroll was driving home alone to Essex
in his £100,000 Mercedes G-Wagon when he was confronted at a junction by two
motorcyclists, one brandishing a gun. They threatened Carroll and demanded he
pull over but the former Newcastle striker, fearing for his life, sped off in a
bid to escape.
Driving in a state of panic pursued by the
motorbikes, Carroll, a source claims, struck several vehicles as he turned and
headed back to West Ham's training ground at Rush Green in Essex, hoping to
reach safety and receive help from the club's security staff. West Ham manager Slaven Bilic described
Carroll as 'very brave' after he was targeted while driving back to his home in
Essex from the club's Rush Green training ground.
Jack O'Brien, 22, of Ivyhouse Road, Dagenham, east
London, is due to appear in court charged with a string of offences, including
attempted robbery in connection with Mr Carroll.
