Kanye West is currently undergoing psychiatric
evaluation after being admitted to UCLA Medical Centre earlier this week for exhaustion
and sleep deprivation. In the wake of the events, some Twitter users have been
mocking or making light of the 39-year-old rapper's hospitalisation.
Speaking
with Australian radio hosts Fitzy & Wippa on Friday, Lady Gaga, 30, offered
her support for Kanye: 'I don't think it's okay to throw around jokes or comments
about mental illness,' adding that 'kindness is the ultimate leading force.'
'To be quite frank, I just don't think it's okay to
throw around jokes or comments about mental illness about anyone,' Lady Gaga
shared live on-air. 'It's not compassionate, I don't think it's nice.' 'Kindness
is the ultimate leading force in the world. If we can all be more kind,
everything would be better,' the star urged.
Following Kanye's hospitalisation, some social media
users made light of the situation. One commented: 'I am curious to know if the
cameras are rolling at the hospital for #kanyewest.' While another Tweeted:
'After being released from the hospital he gon' be ranting about them not
visiting him tho [sic] #KanyeWest #Beyonce #Jayz.'
After the negative comments were made online, Lady
Gaga, made her voice heard, urging society to offer support and kindness for
the musician. 'It's not funny to joke about anyone's possible or not possible
mental illness, this is a sensitive time for many. Let's be kind & loving.
'While I don't agree with everything he does I hope
the public shows compassion and [love heart] for @kanyewest and each other. One
love. One Race.
'@kanyewest I support & love u brother, I see in
you bravery & courage to stop this tour & take care of YOU. You are a
GREAT artist,' Lady Gaga continued.
The Million Reasons singer isn’t the first celebrity
to speak out about the Gold Digger rapper, as John Legend previously said he
was 'concerned' about his friend.
He said: 'We were with Kanye's wife
Kim Kardashian West actually, you
know, right before all of that. I was concerned by what I saw, so hopefully
he's getting some rest and some time to figure things out.'
Meanwhile, it was previously claimed that Kanye had
been fighting against 'darkness' for some time, and felt as though he was 'under
spiritual attack.' A source said: 'He feels like he's under spiritual attack,
and has been for a while. It's not just the big things; it's smaller, quieter
things, internal things.
'You might think that it's about Kim's robbery, and while that didn't help, that's not what's
going on here. He's dealing with a lot more subtle issues.
'Sometimes, darkness creeps in, and Kanye wrestles against it. He talks about
that a lot. It's exhausting, and it takes everything he's got. He's just so
tired now; he's very low energy and feels like there's a grieving in his
spirit.
'It's very hard to explain, but something has
happened recently, where he's not the Ye that everyone knows ... He's in a very
reflective place right now.'
