The Starships hitmaker, who is originally from
Trinidad and Tobago, has recorded a remix of rap duo Rae Sremmurd's hit tune
Black Beatles and renamed it Black Barbies, a reference to her fan following. In
the lyrics, she calls out Trump for vowing to deport all illegal immigrants in
the run up to last week's 08 Nov 2016 election, and touches on her fears for
undocumented U.S. residents now the Republican is set to become the country's
next leader.
Island girl, Donald Trump want me go home," she spits in one
line, adding, "Now I'm praying all my foreigns (sic) don't get
deported."
Nicki announced the news of the remix to fans on
Instagram early on Tuesday (15Nov16), explaining she wanted to put her own
twist on the Mike Will Made-It-produced song to celebrate Rae Sremmurd's Billboard
Hot 100 number one success. The rap act ended The Chainsmokers' 12-week reign
on top of the pop charts on Monday 14 Nov 2016. 2 Lil black kids got the NUMBER
1 RECORD IN THE COUNTRY & I'm soooooo happy for Mike Will (sic)," she
wrote.
Nicki isn't the only rapper to speak out against
Trump's stunning election upset - her boyfriend Meek Mill joined T.I. on the
streets of New York last Wednesday (09Nov16) to protest Trump's victory. Detailing
why he decided to join the demonstrations, T.I. told U.S. talk show host Jimmy
Kimmel, "I voted and I've done everything that I could prior to now, but
after the decision of the election happened, I just want to be able to look my
kids in the eyes and make sure that they know that I did everything that the
Constitution allowed me to do to show my objection to this decision."
