Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, yesterday drafted Chippa United FC of South African goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, as replacement for injured Wolverhampton goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme for the 2018 World Cup qualifying match against Algeria on November 12 in Uyo.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Deputy Director of Communication, Ademola Olajire, who confirmed the replacement yesterday in Abuja, disclosed that Ikeme’s club has officially written the federation, indicating he would not be available for the match due to injury.

“Yes, he’s out of the Algeria match due to injury, he has officially written to be left out of the match to enable him recover fully from his injury”, said Olajire.
“In his place the coach has called up South Africa-based Daniel Akpeyi who will now battle with the other goalkeepers in camp for the first choice place for the match”.
The NFF spokesperson who described the injury of Ikeme as a major blow for Nigeria, however assured that there would be an able replacement for him, adding that the team can still boast of good goalkeepers in Daniel Akpeyi and FC Ifeanyi Ubah first choice keeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
Ikeme, 30, was forced out of the English Championship game at Blackburn Rovers at the weekend due to a hip injury.
