Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC), Plateau Command, Mr Andrew Bala, says the corps has convicted 40
motorists for committing various traffic offences. Bala told the News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Saturday that the motorists were convicted via a mobile
court conducted by the officers and men of the command.
According to him, the exercise is carried out by the
command as part of its ember months’ special patrol. “Our officers and men on patrol conducted a
mobile court and 40. “We actually arraigned 44 vehicle owners, but four of them
were discharged and acquitted by the court.”
Bala said the exercise was carried out in two
locations within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, adding that none of the convicted
motorists was imprisoned. He explained that the convicted motorists were
directed by court to pay fines equivalent to the offence committed. According
to him, mobile court remains a veritable tool the corps uses to rid off
unqualified drivers and vehicles from plying highways. He called on motorist to
ensure that they were certified to drive and their vehicles were road worthy
before plying highways.
NAN reports that offences committed by the offenders
were seatbelt violation, lack of fire extinguishers and caution signs. Others
include worn-out tyres, underage driving, drivers licence violation, plying
highways with unregistered vehicles among others. (NAN)
