A would-be robber who tried to hold up a bank with a toy gun
is fighting for his life after he was shot at point blank range by an armed
security guard. His accomplice managed to escape despite also being shot at
through the bank’s toughened glass windows.
The shooting was caught on security
CCTV footage at a bank in Lucas do Rio Verde, Brazil.The crook, named as 20-year-old Robson Junior Jardim dos
Santos, walked into the branch and pulled out his toy handgun.The attempted robbery was caught on camera, with footage
showing the thief grappling with the guard.
In the film, Santos’ plastic gun can be seen falling to the
floor, where it shatters into several pieces.
When the guard realises the gun is a fake, he hurls Santos
to the floor.
At the same time, an accomplice runs to Santos’ aid from
outside in the street and the guard, Valter de Mello, shoots at him twice
through the bank’s toughened glass windows.Santos then runs to the bank’s revolving security door to
try to make his escape, and is shot three times as he tries to flee, with
shattered glass flying all around him.
Terrified, he squats with his hands on his head waiting to
be arrested.Local media reports say he was shot twice in the abdomen and
further wounded when one bullet clipped his ear.He is said to be severely injured, and is being treated at
Sao Lucas Hospital where he underwent an emergency operation.His accomplice is still at large.
