PRESIDENT BUHARI: Marries Off His Daughter

Before a gathering of eminent Nigerians in Daura,Katsina State, Fatima, daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday formally got married to Malam Yau Gimba Kumo.

The wedding took place at the president’s residence on Mai’adua Road, Daura at about 2.40 p.m.The groom, a former Managing Director of Mortgage Bank, paid N100,000 as dowry to the bride.The marriage was contracted in accordance with Islamic injunctions.

In attendance were top Federal and State Government functionaries including Governors Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Muhammad Abubakar Abubakar (Bauchi) as well as Interior Minister Abdurrahman Dambazau, Defence Minister Mansur Dan-Ali, Police Inspector-General Ibrahim Idris, Immigration Service Controller-General Muhammad Babandede, and Department of State Service Director General Lawal Musa Daura.

Also there were Senators Mustapha Bukar , Ahmed Sani, and Danjuma Goje.Security was tight all around the town but guests had an unhindered access to the venue of the marriage.

However, only few prominent personnel had access to the sitting room where the wedding took place. Praise singers and drummers were not left out of the ceremony as they added glamour to the event.As part of the security arrangement,an armoured personnel carrier (APC) was stationed at the junction leading to the wedding venue.Traders took advantage of the occasion to make brisk sales.Supermarkets, shops, soft drink sellers and commercial motorcyclists were recording a boom in their businesses.Soft drink and bottled water sellers received high patronage due the scorching heat in the ancient city.

There was high vehicular traffic as various brands of assorted cars belonging to invitees flooded the town.Several of the invitees drove straight to the palace of Umar Farouq, Emir of Daura, to pay homage before proceeding to the venue of the wedding. The residents were also seen in high spirit, receiving and entertaining visitors as well as directing them to various places in appreciation of their presence.
