For the first time in the history of Ghana, Francisca Oteng,
a 22-year-old law student, emerged as the youngest parliamentarian in the
country. Francisca won the Kware East parliamentary seat under the umbrella of
the National Patriotic Party (NPP) polling 70,688votes against the candidate of
the ruling NDC who got 1,503 votes.
The 22-year-old is a second year Law
student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. She
is the daughter of Dr. Kwaku Oteng, an entrepreneur and CEO of Angel Group of
Companies.
Born on 14 February, 1993, the MP-elect admitted that she
had support from her father’s companies, but insisted that her victory was more
about her message.In a related development, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the
opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has won Ghana’s presidential election
with an absolute majority over President John Mahama of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC).
