A critical look at 2016 would show that it was not a
good year for many Nigerians including workers owed salaries and allowances for
months. But in Anambra state, the governor has made two vital promises that
could see the workers putting in their best.
Civil servants in Anambra state, south-eastern
Nigeria will get free rice at Christmas from Governor Willie Obiano. The Punch
reports that the governor assured the civil servants in the state that his
government would fulfill the promise and as well, pay them their 2016 annual
leave allowance before the celebration on December 25.Rice is a major staple in
Nigeria but some restrictions on importation of the product by the Muhammadu
Buhari government has caused its scarcity and high price.
Speaking at a church programme in Onitsha, Anambra
state, the governor further promised that would be mass promotion of workers in
2017.He expressed dismay that civil servants in the state had not enjoyed
regular promotion adding that his government had concluded arrangements to
commence this next year.“All the workers will receive their leave allowances as
well as a bag of rice each for the Christmas,” he said while assuring the
residents of the state of a crime-free Yuletide.“We are committed to the fight
against crime and criminality. More security personnel have been deployed to
ensure safety of lives and property in the state especially in the coming
Yuletide season.
Anambra will remain first in promoting the welfare
of her citizens. Our stimulus package
was aimed at ameliorating the sufferings of indigent people, especially in the
present economic recession,” he said.
