The restaurant has given a new job to a robot, which scans
customer’s faces and then comes up with a suggestion of what they would like to
order.Powered by Baidu, the facial recognition technology aims to
guess who would prefer a chicken burger and who might rather have, say, only
fries.
A statement from search giant Baidu said a man in his 20s could receive a
recommendation of ‘crispy chicken hamburger, roasted chicken wings and coke,’
while a woman in her 50s may be advised to eat ‘porridge and soybean milk for
breakfast.’It will initially be available at a new restaurant in Beijing,
China, but if successful it may be rolled out further. But you might have
spotted the potential problem with the technology.
Considering this is partly based on age and gender it’s got
the potential to upset people with what it comes up with. There’s nothing like going to a fast-food restaurant and
being shamed about what food you’re ordering based on how you look, eh?
Exactly how it deems it possible to guess what people want
to eat from their face is unclear.
Luckily you will not be forced to order what the Artificial
Intelligence (AI) suggests and you can easily override it.And it will also be useful in that it will store your
previous orders for when you return, according to TechCrunch.Beijing KFC general manager Zhao Li told China Daily: ‘Our
innovations make use of the cutting-edge technologies and they will help to
attract young consumers who prefer fashionable new things.‘The digitalisation of the restaurant will also help to
provide faster and easier services.’
