She found out only on Friday her real name is actually
Kamiyah Mobley when then woman she had known all her life as her mother, Gloria
Williams, was arrested for kidnapping.
It has now emerged that Gloria 'suffered
a miscarriage week before the baby was taken'.Last night she met her real parents Shanara Mobley and Craig
Aiken in South Carolina. All three beamed wide smiles as they posed for a selfie - a
family photo 48hrs ago none of them could have ever dreamed of.
Mum Shanara - who last saw her daughter in hospital when she
was eight hours old in July 1998 and taken by someone posing as a nurse -
looked close to tears.
Meanwhile a fresh theory behind a possible motive emerged as
reports emerged Gloria Williams had allegedly suffered a miscarriage
approximately a week before the baby was taken from University Medical Center
in Jacksonville, Florida, according to Walterboro Live. She is alleged to have driven to the hospital a week later,
taken the child and then passed her off as her own for the next 18 years
without her family being any the wiser. Craig Aiken said after meeting his
daughter for the very first time it had gone very well - and that he'd told her
"he loved her".
The overjoyed dad explained "First meeting it was
beautiful, it was wonderful. It couldn't have went no better."For anybody that has lost hope just keep hope alive."Just keep praying just keep fighting. If it can happen
to me it can happen to anybody.""It's a feeling that you can't explain this. It's hard
to put it in words right now."It's hard to deal with this here right now. Like I
said, we're trying to process it... 18 years it's going to be hard to make that
up."Always thought I'd find her, always thought I'd find
her."
After the meeting reporters saw Kamiyah running to a waiting
car with a jumper over her head. This morning Kamiyah - aka Alexis - posted a
YouTube link on her Facebook page to a song from the Seventies called Gloria,
by the US R'n'B group Enchantment. Its lyrics include the words: "Things ain't been the
same, since you went away."All the things you want to believe, but time won't
change the way I feel,"Cause in my mind, it's you and me, you and me." Yesterday
MirrorOnline reported that after being told that DNA proved the fact, Kamiyah -
aka Alexis - defended her alleged kidnapper insisting: "My mom's no
felon".Williams was arrested in Waleterboro, South Carolina, on Friday
- and yesterday morning video footage showed her stood behind bars as she
attended a hearing. Kamiyah also attended and, understandably emotional, was
heard shouting "I love you mom" before breaking down in tears.Williams looked calm as she waived her right to an
extradition hearing - meaning she will be swiftly brought back to Jacksonville
to face kidnapping charges. She took glasses out of the pocket of the clothing she was
wearing to sign forms. When Williams was taken into custody, the pair shared an
emotional goodbye, with Manigo sobbing "Momma" and pushing her fingers
through a security window.
Later in court, Williams blew a kiss to Manigo who was in
the public gallery. The teenager responded by shouting: "I love you
mom!" Friend LaQuisha Drayton added: "Babygirl you always straight
they can never say you wasn't taking (sic) care of.
"You always was straight and had ah roof over your head
and food and your mouth."She put you through school and everything if anything
they should be awarding your momma she the best and you don't have to worry
bbg" Williams has been charged with kidnapping and interfering with
custody and was denied bail. Her aunt Susan Alls also expressed disbelief at the turn of
events."I don't think it's true,"she told News4Jax."There has to be something going on with the DNA,
whatever they did."The astonishing case will give renewed hope to the parents
of Madeleine McCann, almost a decade after the toddler vanished.
A friend of Kate and Gerry McCann revealed they were
“buoyed” by the news across the Atlantic. The source said: “It shows that dreams can come true and
this teenager being found so many years after the event is another example that
will give Kate and Gerry hope.”Kamiyah Mobley was born to mum Shanara at University Medical
Center, Jacksonville, on July 10, 1998.
A woman posing as a nurse entered Shanara’s hospital room
eight hours later and told her the youngster had a fever and needed to be
checked.
The imposter then left the room and disappeared with the
baby, triggering one of Florida’s longest-running kidnap cases.Kamiyah grew up believing Gloria Williams was her mum until
cold case detectives acting on tip-offs traced her to Walterboro.Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said he did not know if
Kamiyah would return to her biological family and the decision was down to her.But he said relatives were “elated” with the news and added:
“They were extremely excited, as you can imagine. Overwhelmed with emotion.”“She’s [Kamiyah] taking it as well as you can imagine.
“We have victim’s advocates up there, she has a lot to
process, a lot to think about.”
At the time of Kamiyah’s disappearance, hospital CCTV
footage was too grainy to identify the kidnapper. There were no photographs of
the child so police produced a composite image.
Officers pursed 2,000 leads.
A reward of $250,000 – £200,000 – was also offered while the
case featured on TV show America’s Most Wanted.Mum Shanara later sued the hospital, receiving a
£1.23million settlement.
On the 10th anniversary of Kamiyah's disappearance, she told
how she still made her a birthday cake every year - and put a piece in the
freezer in the hope she would one day return.
Last month the McCanns, of Rothley, Leics, said they were
hoping a new year “miracle” would reunite them with their daughter as the 10th
anniversary of her abduction approaches.
A Facebook campaign, which they endorse, said in a new post:
“We still have great hope and believe in miracles.
