Former president, Goodluck Jonathan has paid a visit
to the home of the late Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki in Sokoto, to condone with his
family on the loss of the former Sultan of Sokoto. The former Sultan who is
also the father to former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, died on
Monday, November 14, evening at the National Hospital in Abuja.
Jonathan’s visit to the Dasuki’s on Thursday,
November 17, is sequel to the condolence message he sent the family via a
Facebook post where he described the former Sultan as a bridge builder and
father figure who was ever committed to fostering unity in Nigeria. Goodluck
Jonathan was welcomed as a hero when he visited Sokoto, the seat of the
caliphate.
President Buhari has also sent a condolence message
to the Dasuki family over the death of their patriarch. The president in a
statement released by his aide, Garba Shehu, on Tuesday November 15, said
Dasuki was ‘a voice for peace’ when he was alive. He saluted late Dasuki for
his contributions to the present federal government structure in Nigeria. The
former Sultan of Sokoto Ibrahim has been buried according to Islamic prayers in
Sokoto. Dasuki was the 18th Sultan of Sokoto. He was dethroned in 1996 during
military government of late general Sani Abacha. Before ascending the throne as
Sultan, Dasuki was Baraden Sokoto. He was the also the first Sultan from the
Buhari line of the house of Dan Fodio and a close associate of Ahmadu Bello.
