Baby Marwa had been diagnosed with a brain-damaging virus and doctors had been carrying out procedures to try and prevent any further neurological disorders from developing.

Medics in France eventually told Marwa’s parents there was little more they could do after bouts of “aggressive therapy” failed to make a difference. Her family subsequently sought a court order to prevent doctors from turning off the life support machine. After being granted a two-month extension, the little girl miraculously opened her eyes. Her father posted the heartwarming footage of the moment she woke up on Facebook.

Marwa’s parents, originally from Algeria, began a petition to prevent the doctors at La Timone Hospital in Marseille, France from ending Marwa’s life, the Daily Mirror reported. The 'Not without my Marwa' campaign collected more than 114,000 signatures. Doctors argued that she would never breathe independently and that she would struggle to walk or eat for the rest of her life.

However, her mother said that all Marwa’s organs are working perfectly since she woke up. Speaking to a local news website, her father said: 'Her treatment continues, but we see progress every day and that gives us a lot of hope. 'When I speak to her, she hears my voice, she reacts, sometimes even smiles.'
